Araket Alley Opens in New Settlements of Osh

On 29 September 2026 Araket Alley was officially inaugurated in the Alay-1 and Alay-2 new settlements of Osh. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Osh City Mayor’s Office, as well as local community leaders and residents — celebrating a new green space for recreation and community connection.

More than 9,000 residents of the Alay-1 and Alay-2 neighbourhoods now enjoy access to a newly greened alley, designed for safe and comfortable walks and leisure. Where dusty, unplanted land once stood, residents themselves planted seedlings and greened the territory as part of the Araket environmental campaign — turning the alley into a shared achievement of the local community.

The total investment in the project reached KGS 1,182,269, with KGS 650,000 contributed by Switzerland through the Araket project and KGS 532,269 by the Osh City Mayor’s Office. Local residents played an active role in bringing the initiative to life, demonstrating strong community spirit and ownership of their neighbourhood’s development.

Over the past three decades, internal migrants have increasingly settled in the urban outskirts of Bishkek and Osh. Many faced limited access to public services due to the absence of legal residency status and a lack of reliable information. In response to these challenges, Switzerland launched the Araket project in 2022.

Today, the Swiss Araket project supports 11 emerging settlements in Bishkek and Osh, reaching over 120,000 people. The initiative empowers residents by raising awareness of their rights and duties, facilitating access to essential public services, and working with local authorities to improve infrastructure and living conditions. By tackling real, everyday challenges, the project is making life in these communities safer, more inclusive, and more comfortable. It places particular emphasis on supporting women and children, helping them gain better access to education, social opportunities, and economic stability.

Funded by the Swiss Government, Araket is implemented in Kyrgyzstan by GFA Consulting Group in partnership with the Association of Non-Governmental Organizations “Advocacy Center for Human Rights”.
