The Center for Coordination of State-guaranteed Legal Aid (CCSGLA) under the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic Builds a Platform for Efficient Cooperation with Civil Society

Bishkek, June 12, 2018. Today, the Center for Coordination of State-guaranteed Legal Aid (CCSGLA) under the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic holds its first coordination meeting with non-government organizations (NGOs) and legal clinics of universities.

One of the CCSGLA’s key objectives is to establish efficient mechanisms of cooperation between government agencies, local governments, the Kyrgyz Republic Bar, and civil society institutions to improve the legal opportunities for communities. During the meeting, the CCSGL will provide information on key regulations governing the provision of state-guaranteed free legal aid to the population, procedures and standards for providing consultations and professional legal assistance, and CCSGLA’s organizational structure.

As a conclusion of the coordination meeting, the CCSGLA will sign an agreement on cooperation with NGOs and legal clinics. The agreement aims to promote a more efficient enforcement of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On State-guaranteed Legal Aid”, as well as improving access to justice for the population including women and people with disabilities.

The coordination meeting will be attended by representatives of more than 30 NGOs and legal clinics of universities and organized with the support of the Finland Foreign Ministry’s project “Towards Sustainable Access to Justice for Improving Legal Opportunities in the Kyrgyz Republic” and the USAID Collaborative Governance Program implemented by the East-West Management Institute in the Kyrgyz Republic.
