Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Summary: The U.S. Mission in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Warehouse Worker in the General Services Office, Management section.

Supervisory Position: No.
Relocation Expenses Reimbursed: No.
Travel Required: Occasional in-country travel may be required.

Duties:

The Warehouse Worker is responsible for safely and efficiently operating U.S. Government-owned or -leased trucks, large cargo vehicles, or other vehicles.  The incumbent is also responsible for safe handling, transporting, and storage of both expendable and non-expendable items.  The position is in the General Services Office, under the supervision of the Supply Supervisor.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operates U.S. Government-owned or -leased vehicles including heavy- or light-duty trucks, pick-up trucks, vans, cargo vans, etc. as required to transport expendable and non-expendable items to and from the warehouse, office building, residential properties, and other locations.
  • Safely operates forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, trolleys, and other material-handling equipment to move supplies to and from proper storage areas. 
  • Inspects and maintains vehicles, reports issues and performs minor repairs as needed.
  • Manages cash and a government fuel card.
  • Loads, unloads, assembles, dismantles, and moves furniture and appliances; packs, unpacks, and delivers welcome kits; and distributes supplies to staff.
  • Assists in moving and storing items and in maintaining storage spaces.
  • Assists with warehouse and residence inventories and helps organize items for sale or disposal.
  • Provides manual assistance during official visits and events, escorts visitors and contractors, and performs other manual labor tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a security certificate or Public Trust security clearance. 
All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.  
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements: Completion of high school education is required.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of professional truck or heavy vehicle driving experience is required.  In addition, one (1) year of experience in manual labor or warehouse work is required.

Language:  Limited knowledge (speaking/reading/writing) of English is required.  Good working knowledge (speaking/reading/writing) of Russian is required.  (This may be tested.)

Job Knowledge:

  • Good working knowledge of warehouse operations, procedures and security standards. 
  • Good working knowledge of maintenance and efficient usage of warehouse storage space. 
  • Good working knowledge of conducting inventory and stacking of items/equipment. 
  • Knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations.  Knowledge of in-country travel routes and areas is required.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Physically able to perform loading and unloading.  Must be able to handle heavy objects smoothly and efficiently.  Must be able to lift a maximum of 51 lbs. (23 kg) under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Ability to use warehouse tools and safely operate equipment such as forklifts, hand trolleys, electronic lifters, etc. 
  • Must be able to diagnose and handle preventive maintenance and first-tier automotive repairs.  Ability to detect vehicle defects and report them immediately to the supervisor.
  • Must be able to perform assigned tasks in all types of weather and environmental conditions, to include, at times, severe cold, extreme heat, wet or dry weather conditions, and high winds. (This may be tested.)
