Published: 17 September 2014 г.
The University of Central Asia (UCA) hosted its third annual football tournament at its main Naryn campus from 29 to 31 August 2014. Following the inaugural 2012 tournament marking the opening of its international standard sports facilities, the University brings together teams for an annual friendly competition as part of Kyrgyz Independence Day celebrations in Naryn.

“This is the third year that UCA has hosted this tournament. I have noticed that the interest in football has increased. Today six teams are representing Naryn neighbourhoods, compared to just three that participated in 2012, when I also played,” observed Almaz Shaltaev Suranovich, acting Naryn Mayor.

Kyrgyz Arab Friendship (in red) and Almabak were head to head in the semi-final.

The game ended with a 3-2 victory for Almabаk.
The six participating teams included Almabak, Kyrgyz Arab Friendship representing the RTS neighbourhood, Pazzakov of Razzakov neighbourhood, Tosh-Bulak, Shaarcha from Sanedip, MDS, MSO and Gorodok neighbourhoods and a UCA staff team. The tournament took place over three days, with the final game held on the 31 August, Kyrgyz Independence Day.

Tosh-Bulak and RTS were tournament champions in 2012 and 2013 respectively. This year, UCA beat Razzakov 5-1 to win the champions trophy. Three new awards were presented. Orozaliev Sagyn of Razzakov was honoured as best player, Bek Jusupbek uulu of Almabak received the award for best goal scorer and Argen Aiyichy uulu of UCA was recognised as the best goal keeper.

UCA team captain Rysbek Shamuratov receives the champion’s trophy from acting Naryn Mayor Almaz Shaltaev Suranovich, who played in the inaugural UCA tournament in 2012.

“In just three years, the UCA football tournament has become a popular sporting event in Naryn,” said Mr Grant Robertson, UCA Director of Construction, “Our goal is to create facilities that serve as focal points in the community and as construction progresses, UCA looks forward to more opportunities to bring people from the region together.”

UCA’s sports facilities were physically built by residents of Naryn Town and Tosh Bulak village and managed by UCA’s construction team. The facilities are open to the public and will be used by UCA students, when the campus opens in September 2016.
