On September 12, 2023, the KOICA Office in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic signed a Record of Discussion on the project “Genetic Improvement of Cattle and Artificial Insemination Capacity Building in the Kyrgyz Republic”.
Minister of Agriculture Djanybekov Askarbek, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea Mr. Lee Won-jae, Director of the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Pastures Kerimaliev Janybek and Director of KOICA Yi Jongsu attended the signing ceremony.
Minister Djanybekov outlined the input of KOICA and the Korean government in developing the agricultural field of the Kyrgyz Republic. Ambassador Lee also mentioned that the Korean government has selected the agricultural field as a key ODA cooperation area between the two countries in 2021, and is promoting various cooperative projects. KOICA Country Director Yi, in his turn, highlighted that the project will distribute excellent genetic resources to farms around the country, thereby contributing to increasing the income of livestock farmers.
The project will be implemented by KOICA jointly with the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Pastures under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic. We expect that this project will help improve the meat and milk productivity of cows through the use of the Brown Swiss breed, construction of a research training center, reconstruction of the biocenter, and capacity building of artificial insemination specialists.
