The Swiss Araket Project has successfully concluded two pitching sessions to select business proposals from women residing in the new settlements of Bishkek and Osh cities for grant support.
While all participants showcased remarkable potential and commitment, 7 women from Bishkek and 4 from Osh were selected to receive grants to implement their business ideas, which ranged from setting up a community kindergarten to expanding their sewing workshops.
As a next step, each of these women will receive up to CHF 4,500 from the Swiss Araket project and work closely with business mentors. They will also attend various experience exchanges and networking events organized by the project to further strengthen their entrepreneurial skills. In sum, in 2024, the Araket project will support 11 business initiatives with grants totaling up to CHF 49’500.
One of the project's objectives is to improve job and income opportunities for women in the new settlements by supporting micro-business initiatives. In 2023, the project trained around 60 women from a number of settlements, helping them to develop their business plans.
The Swiss project “Araket - for better life in the new settlements in Kyrgyzstan” is funded by the Swiss Government and implemented in Kyrgyzstan by the GFA Consulting Group in close cooperation with local partners in 11 new settlements in Bishkek and Osh cities. The project is aimed at improving the living conditions of the residents in the target settlements by ensuring their access to public services, better employment, and citizens’ empowerment.
