Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan, November 20, 2014 – Residents of Jalal-Abad city renovated the concert hall in the Jalal-Abad Oblast Children's Art Center. The hall opening ceremony was held today, November 20, 2014. The hall renovation was carried out with financial support of the USAID’s Women's Peace Banks Project implemented by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA).
The Children’s Art Center building was built in 1960. It has never undergone major repairs since then. After more than half a century of its operation, some of its rooms have fallen into disrepair. Now, after the main hall capital repair, there is a comfortable place to conduct festivals, competitions, concerts and other cultural events at the city and oblast levels.
“Earlier in order to organize an event and to demonstrate children’s talents we had to rent halls at schools. Now we have again our own hall in which good conditions for rehearsals and events have been created”, said Bahram Ormonov, Director of Jalal-Abad Oblast Children's Arts Center.
Over 20 club activities are held in the center involving more than 600 children. They include foreign language, dance, music and, karate classes and other activities.
The renovating concert hall promotes active and creative lifestyle and strengthens the mutual understanding and friendship between people of different ethnic groups. There are children of different nationalities in the Children’s art center who can now study together at a new convenient facility.
Moreover, earlier under the Women's Peace Banks Project new tatami floor was installed in the karate hall. As a result, it became much more comfortable and safer for children to practice karate.
The Women's Peace Banks Project is one of many projects, which were made possible with the support from the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is implemented by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA). The project aims to provide opportunities for women in the south of Kyrgyzstan to lead initiatives to promote inter-ethnic reconciliation, and to increase the role of women in peacebuilding processes.
