On December 18, the opening ceremony of the building of the Fire and Rescue Unit No. 9 in Ak-Orgo new settlement area of Bishkek city took place in the framework of KOICA’s “Improvement of fire safety of population by strengthening the capacity of the Fire and Rescue Services in the Kyrgyz Republic" project.
А new three-story building, a training tower, a garage, and a wastewater treatment plant meet all safety requirements. The main building is fully equipped with furniture and necessary equipment, as well as sports equipment for firefighters. Previously, a rescue vehicle and a fire truck have already been provided as part of the project.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea Kim Kwang-jae, Mayor of Bishkek city Aibek Dzhunushaliyev, Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic Boobek Azhikeev, UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Alexandra Solovieva and KOICA Country Director Lim So Yeon attended the ceremony.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea Kim Kwang-jae remarked that the fire and rescue units in Bishkek and those already operating in Cholpon-Ata, Osh, and Suzak will be able to use advanced infrastructure and equipment, and enhanced qualifications acquired within the project to protect the population from fires and various disasters.
Note: “Improvement of fire safety of population by strengthening capacity of the Fire and Rescue Services in the Kyrgyz Republic" project aims to reduce vulnerability of the population to fires and create conditions for sustainable development with the budget of 7,7 mln USD for 2019-2024 through modernizing fire and rescue protection facilities and equipment and strengthening fire-fighting capacity to protect the population.
