In collaboration with the Swiss project "Effective Management and Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic successfully concluded a nationwide competition among primary healthcare facilities.
The competition within the "Be Responsible!" health campaign was aimed at strengthening efforts in preventing and detecting noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cancer, while also reducing mortality rates from NCDs across the country.
According to the competition results, the Swiss project awarded the following primary healthcare organizations with cash prizes:
The campaign itself led to a significant increase in men getting preventive health screenings at primary healthcare facilities across the country. Over 973,000 men underwent medical examinations for noncommunicable diseases. Among them, more than 119,600 (12%) were detected with high blood pressure levels. Additionally, 49,600 men (5%) were found to be at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, while around 60,800 men (6%) were identified as being at high risk for diabetes, highlighting the need for awareness and management.
The Swiss project “Effective Management and Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan”, financed by the Swiss Government, helps to improve the health and wellbeing of the Kyrgyz population through equitable access to quality primary care services and the promotion of healthier lifestyles. The project is implemented countrywide.
