The “Dordoi-2” neighbourhood of Bishkek now features a newly constructed playground and development center, officially inaugurated on 4 April 2025. The event was attended by representatives of the Bishkek City Hall, the Sverdlovsk Municipal Administration, Municipal territorial administration №21, the Swiss Ambassador, local community leaders, and residents of the area.
Earlier, children had to play on dusty streets along the roads, increasing the risk of accidents. Now they have a safe and comfortable space for leisure. The newly opened development center serves as a platform for meetings fostering community engagement for children, youth, and the elderly. In addition, trees were planted throughout the area.
Thanks to the initiative of the local community and the support of the city administration and Switzerland, the residents of “Dordoi-2 neighbourhood have received an improved infrastructure. A total cost of the construction was 3.75 million soms, where 2.7 million soms was contributed by Switzerland, while the Bishkek City Hall contributed 1.05 million soms. The local residents have also contributed funds and demonstrated their active participation.
During 30 years internal migrants occupied urban areas around Bishkek and Osh. Due to lack of legal status in their place of residence and lack of awareness, these people have limited access to public services. Switzerland decided to support these left-behind population through the Swiss Araket project. Today it supports 11 new settlements - 7 new settlements in Bishkek and 4 in Osh, helping to improve the living conditions of more than 120,000 people by raising awareness of their rights, providing access to public services, involving local governments in improving living conditions.
The Swiss Araket project is focused on making life in new settlements easier and more secure by addressing real problems faced by local communities. It also provides support to women and children, helping them access better opportunities for education, socialization, and economic stability. The Araket project is funded by the Swiss Government and implemented in Kyrgyzstan by GFA Consulting Group in partnership with the Public Association "Resource Center for the Elderly."
