The Government of Switzerland to support elections in Kyrgyzstan

The Government of Switzerland will allocate CHF 1.8 million (around 117 million soms) for a project called “Strengthening Democratic Practices in the Election Processes in the Kyrgyz Republic” with the goal to support the efforts of the Kyrgyz Government in this area.
 
The project will support democratic practices in the upcoming elections parliamentarian, municipal and presidential elections in 2015-2017. The project goal is contribute to the efforts of the Kyrgyz authorities to strengthen democratic practices in the election processes.

Within the framework of the project more than 200 sets of automated ballot-boxes will be provided to all polling stations of the cities of Karakol, Kant, Naryn, Jalal-Abad, Batken. Also the project will strengthen the election dispute resolution system by training judges, parties and law enforcement bodies on the new electoral system. In addition, local civil society organizations will be enabled to conduct civic education on the new electoral system  and to ensure local observation of elections.

Supporting democracy in Kyrgyzstan is a crucial endeavor for Switzerland”, says the Ambassador of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic, Ren? Holenstein. “Fair, transparent and inclusive elections are an important element of each democracy. Elections will hopefully contribute to fostering peace and stability in the country.”
