The Government of Switzerland to support development of local self-government in Chui oblast

Heads of more than 100 municipalities of Chui oblast will receive new opportunities for development and dialog with communities during two years.
 
On 15th of May 2015 in Bishkek an official presentation of the “Voice of Citizens and Accountability of Local Self Governments (LSG): Budget Process” Project implemented by the Development Policy Institute and funded by the Swiss Government will be held.
 
The presentation will be attended by representatives of the Kyrgyz Government’ Office, State Agency for LSG and Interethnic Relations under the Kyrgyz Government, Embassy of Switzerland, donor agencies, local organizations, mass media, heads of all rural and urban municipalities of Chui oblast. The heads of LSGs of Chui oblast will consider issues of local self-government development in Kyrgyzstan and receive information about collaboration opportunities with the project.

The project aims at improving citizens’ engagement in budget process at local level, creation of enabling environment for building dialogue between the citizens and local self-government agencies, taking into account the needs of population in the decision making process at local level.
 
Also LSGs will get technical assistance including competitive grant support for addressing priority issues. Specific feature of the grant support is that the program serves as an “investment excerciser” helping LSGs to improve skills and manage investments from local budget.

The implementation of the project is divided into several phases: Phase I was implemented in the municipalities of Jalal-Abad and Issyk-Kul oblasts from April 2012 to March 2015, Phase II will cover the municipalities of Chui oblast from April 2015 to March 2017, later on LSGs of Naryn and Osh oblasts will be included.
 
The presentation will be held on 15th of May 2015 in “City Hotel” located at the following address: 34, Baytik Baatyr street, Bishkek. The event will start at 9:30.
