Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, 18 May 2015 – Kyrgyzstan Spatial, the University of Central Asia’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration (UCA IPPA) and International Food Policy Research Institute’s (IFPRI) interactive online mapping tool and knowledge platform, was recently featured at the top of the list as a cutting-edge technology in
Top Solutions That Save Lives in Humanitarian Response and Disaster Relief, a report by Aid and International Development Forum (AIDF).
The report highlights innovations to mitigate humanitarian crises, such as famine and conflict, and is the outcome of an online survey of over 320 suggestions from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), local governments, United Nations (UN) agencies and the private sector working in 58 countries.AIDF is a leading platform for knowledge exchange between NGOs, UN agencies, governments and the private sector, specialising in disaster relief, food security and water security.
The report describes how science and technology “have the potential to dramatically improve humanitarian aid and disaster response,” and specifies, “It is widely accepted in the humanitarian community that sharing data saves lives.”
Kyrgyzstan Spatial provides data on more than 100 indicators, including climate, biophysical and socio-economic factors, enabling users to visualise areas most vulnerable to food insecurity and target policies research where they are most needed. Designed to support evidence-based decision making by policy makers and practitioners in agriculture and food security, Kyrgyzstan Spatial was recently launched by UCA’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and can be accessed online at:
