The University of Central Asia (UCA) hosted its annual Independence Day football tournament on 30 and 31 August 2015. The qualifying matches were played at the University’s international standard sports facilities at its Naryn campus over two days, with the final hosted on Kyrgyz Independence Day. This is the fourth time UCA has hosted the tournament.

Ryskulov Siymyk from finalist team RTS noted, “Thanks to UCA, this community football tournament, celebrating every Independence Day, has become a tradition in Naryn.”
The eight participating teams represented Naryn neighbourhoods, and included Tosh-Bulak, Almabak, Shaarcha, Jailoobak, Razzakov, RTS and Ardagerler, as well as a UCA staff team. UCA has organised the tournament since 2012, presenting champion’s trophies to Tosh-Bulak (2012), RTS (2013) and UCA (2014).
This year, Almabak pulled ahead of RTS in the final match to win the champion’s trophy with a score of 2 to 1. In addition to the trophy, members of Almabak each received a certificate, gold medal and a sports suit.

“In just four years, the annual Independence Day tournament has become an important community event, and UCA is delighted to host the teams and their supporters. Since our sports facilities opened in 2012, they have been open to the public. We are now just one year away from opening our residential undergraduate campus and look forward to other opportunities to engage our host community of Naryn,” said Grant Robertson, Director of UCA’s Construction and Facilities Division.
