On 15 December 2015, within the framework of the “Public Service Improvement” project financed by the Government of Switzerland, the Union of local self-government bodies and the Prime Minister’s Office of Kyrgyzstan with the support of the HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation and Development Policy Institute will hold a conference to discuss ways of improving public services at the municipal level in Kyrgyzstan.

The conference is aimed at assisting local authorities in creating the conditions for effective implementation of the state policy in the sphere of organization and provision of public services.

The event will bring together representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office, Jogorku Kenesh and other state organizations, the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic, donor agencies, development and independent experts. The conference will take place in the “CITY” Hotel (34 Baitik Baatyr Street, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) at 9:00.

Additionally, the participants of the conference will be demonstrated the best practices of various public services such as the “One-Stop-Shop” service, the innovative technologies of street lighting and the management of communal and other services.

The Government of Switzerland launched PSI Project in June 2015 to provide assistance to local authorities in Jalalabad and Issyk-Kul oblasts. The project is implemented by a consortium of organizations composed of HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation and Development Policy Institute.

Over the four years of the project’s first phase, it will work closely with selected municipalities in Jalalabad and Issyk-Kul oblasts to improve access and ensure provision of quality services that respond to demands of citizens. It aims to improve services of local relevance such as waste collection, street lighting, housing and utility services, access to drinking water and other issues. The project will involve citizens in defining, implementing and monitoring services at the municipal level. It will contribute to overall improvement of life conditions in rural areas.
