Today, on 16 December 2015, the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Ren? Holenstein, has presented awards to journalists who won the competition for the best publication, TV and radio material about violence against women and girls.
The competition open to media representatives was launched within the framework of the international campaign “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” and the UN Secretary General’s campaign “UNiTE to end violence women”. It was announced on the 23rd of November with nominations from “TV”, “radio”, “internet outlets/blogs”, “print media”, and “multimedia”.
“The Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic has been actively participating in these international campaigns with the aim to support the people of Kyrgyzstan in their efforts to combat violence against women and girls and raise awareness about it. Unfortunately, gender-based violence remains one of the most widespread and tolerated violations of human rights worldwide. But we can prevent it”, says the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Ren? Holenstein.
The award ceremony took place at the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic with the participation of the UN Women and Internews Network in Kyrgyzstan representatives.
In the TV section, Jazgul Karimova (“MIR TV”) and Guljan Ajimatova (“Osh TV”) were winners.
In the Radio section, Kanymgul Elkeeva (“Azattyk” radio), Eleonora Sagyndyk kyzy and Meerim Asanaly (“IWPR” radio), Aigerim Toktonalieva (“Almaz” radio) were winners. The runner-up prize went to Aiperi Ubykeeva (“Almaz” radio).
From the “internet outlets/blogs” nominations, Cholpon Arkabaeva (freelance) and Anastasia Bengard (“24.kg”) were winners, while the runner-up prizes went to Alla Pyatibratova (freelance) and Elgiza Minaeva (“Boorsok TV”) from “multimedia” nomination.
The competition winners received certificates and prizes.
