Bishkek, February 24, 2016. The joint working group of the Anticorruption Business Council and members of the Jogorku Kenesh will hold its first meeting on February 26, 2016 as a part of a project that analyzes laws posing potential barriers to the protection of property rights of individuals and business entities.
The primary goal of this initiative is to reduce the risk of corruption in the activities of the judiciary, fiscal authorities, and law enforcement bodies. The project is being implemented with the support of the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID).
During the first meeting, the working group, consisting of members of two parliamentary committees, judges of the Supreme Court, and representatives of government structures, civil society and business community will discuss a draft methodology for conducting an independent review and analysis of existing law enforcement practices.
The implementer of the project, Anticorruption Business Council of the Kyrgyz Republic, has formed a standing joint working group to share opinions on legislative initiatives with decision makers. This approach will assure continuous feedback over the entire project implementation period.
The working group agenda includes such objectives as: discussion of methodologies; analysis of corruption elements and gaps in existing legislation regulating ownership; use and management of property; and development of recommendations regarding amendments to legislation based on findings of the review and analysis.
This project is supported by the
Collaborative Governance Program (CGP)promoting effective collaboration among civil society, the private sector, and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), and implemented by East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
