Karakol - During March 11-16 the Public Union Harmony Plus held meetings to discuss amendments to the regulations seeking improvement in access to, and the quality of, medical, social, psychological and legal services for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and their families in Issyk-Kul Oblast.
Round table discussions were attended by the heads of rayon state administrations, members of ayil kenesh, representatives of departments for social development, migration and labor, ayil okmotus, rural health committees, family medicine centers, media, human rights NGOs, and local government structures.
The participants of the round table discussions discussed recommendations developed by Harmony Plus based on findings from their survey conducted in December 2015 on improvement of access and availability of services for PLHIV. These recommendations will be used in the work with the government and local self-governance structures to improve services for PLHIV through a family-oriented approach when working with families of HIV-positive people.
In the future, decrees and regulations will be drafted to promote improved quality of medical, social and legal support services provided to people living with HIV and their families. Harmony Plus will also implement a targeted campaign to promote these issues in relevant Parliamentary Committees, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.
Additionally, during February 2016 the public union conducted a series of workshops for 50 officials of rayon and state administrations as well as local self-governance structures of the region on the issues of HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination, and access to medical, social, and legal support for PLHIV.
