Switzerland supports future leaders of Central Asia

Published: 07 May 2016 г.
Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic has allocated CHF 200’000 (more than 14 million soms) to the OSCE Academy in Bishkek to provide high-quality education to a young generation of future leaders of Central Asia.

The project will help to grow young professionals of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan through post-graduate programs such as “Politics and Security”, “Economic Governance and Development”.

Also the project will support the OSCE Academy to develop an academic research centre and serve as a platform for discussions on important security issues. This will include various publications and trainings by international researches who will share their knowledge and expertise with young leaders.

Switzerland views the OSCE as a key platform through which to implement its foreign-policy priority commitment to freedom and security in Europe, its neighboring countries, and in the Central Asia. The Swiss government provides support for OSCE projects and makes experts available for fixed-term missions in projects and areas such as mediation, rule of law, and human rights.

The graduates of the academy work in state agencies, civil service, international organizations, NGOs, research and business sectors. It is expected that the majority of the alumni will stay and work in the region and contribute to the development of their countries.
The project is foreseen until end of 2017.
