Shamsh Kassim-Lakha to Speak at Breaking the Cycle of Poverty lecture series in the United Kingdom

Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, Executive Chairman of the University of Central Asia Board Executive Committee and AKDN Resident Representative for the Kyrgyz Republic will deliver a talk about the launch of UCA’s undergraduate programme and initiatives throughout Central Asia as part of the Aga Khan Foundation, United Kingdom Breaking the Cycle of Poverty lecture series on Friday, 20 May 2016. The talk will be webcast live on the University website at approximately 8:25 PM GMT (London time).

The first of three undergraduate UCA campuses will be opening in the Kyrgyz Republic in September 2016. Kassim-Lakha will discuss how this visionary project is bringing about transformative change in Central Asia and responding to some of the region’s pressing social and economic challenges by encouraging investment and creating new opportunities for its mountainous communities.

The talk will also highlight UCA’s current impact through its School of Professional & Continuing Education, Institute for Public Policy and Administration, Mountain Societies Research Institute, Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit, and the Aga Khan Humanities Project. The School of Professional & Continuing Education has already provided skills training to over 85,000 students since it opened in 2006.

An open discussion and question and answer session will follow the talk, led by Gulnara Kasmambetova, Senior Producer for British Broadcasting Corporation (Kyrgyz Television, Radio and Online).
