Osh Volunteers Training to Work with Special Needs Children

Published: 31 May 2016 г.
Osh – On May 24-26, 2016, Public Fund “Blagodat” will conduct a 3-day training course for volunteers on new technologies and methods of providing assistance to children with special needs and their families in the city of Osh. Volunteers will be familiarized with the peculiarities of working with children diagnosed with mental retardation (MR), infantile cerebral palsy (ICP), and deafness. This initiative is supported by the Collaborative Governance Program, funded by USAID and DFID, and is organized in partnership with “Family to Every Child” and “Smile.kg”.

Twenty five volunteers, including special education teachers from local schools, social workers, phycologists, teachers, and university students, will take the training course. The training program includes master classes, workshops, role-plays, psychological “work-outs”, as well as one-on-one training on counseling children and families with special needs and providing social and pedagogical support to parents.

The training program aims to promote volunteerism by teaching volunteers how to communicate with clients, work as a team, and engage in creative problem-solving. These activities engage volunteers to become socially active, promote their personal and professional development, and encourage empathetic interactions with children with special needs.

The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) promotes effective collaboration among civil society, the private sector, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the private sector of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) and is implemented by East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
