Project to Protect Women and Girls Against Violance to be Launched in Osh

Osh – The project will enhance the role and responsibility of local governments and law enforcement agencies on preventing domestic violence and protecting women and girls from violence. DIA public foundation will share project details at a press conference on June 28, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the “AKIpress-Osh” Information Agency.
The “Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women” project is supported by the Collaborative Governance Program, funded by USAID and DFID.
 
The main goal of the project is to facilitate implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), which seeks to ensure gender equality at the local level by increasing the awareness of local governments, law enforcement agencies, and local institutions on gender issues, as well as through joint actions on protecting women against domestic violence. 

According to Director of DIA Avazkan Ormonova, representatives of local governments do not always knowthe main guidelines of the NAP and their own role and responsibilities in prevention of domestic violence, which are indicated in the law “On Social and Legal Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence”. 

The project will be implemented in nine aiyl aimaks (local authorities) of Kara-Kulja, Kara-Suu and Nookat rayons of Osh Oblast.

The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP)promotes effective collaboration among civil society, the private sector, and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the private sector of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), and is implemented by East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
