Nonprofit Management Resource Center Opens at Talas State University

Talas, Kyrgyz Republic – Public Union “Association of Nonprofit Management (NPM) Educators” inaugurates a Nonprofit Management (NPM) Resource Center at Talas State University (TSU). The official opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2017, 10 a.m., 1st floor, room 101, Study bld. #5, Talas State University at the address: 35, Myrzalieva Street, Talas.

Talas State University, an active member of the Consortium of Universities on Nonprofit Management, will be the Sixth Nonprofit Management Resource Center opened with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program.  

Rector of Talas State University Aibek Upenov, faculty and students, representatives of the Education Board, state administrative bodies of Talas oblast, representatives of USAID, and civil society organizations will participate in the inauguration ceremony.

The NPM Resource Center at Talas State University will serve as a platform for professional development workshops, guest lectures, conferences and discussions involving students, faculty members, and representatives of the nonprofit, business, and public sector communities of Talas oblast. Following the Center’s inauguration ceremony, professors and faculty members of Talas State University will participate in a two-day “Training for Trainers” to review the syllabi of the courses “Introduction to NPM”, and “NPO’s in the Modern World”, and learn innovative techniques for teaching NPM courses at their university.

Since December 2013, five NPM courses have been developed by consortium members in collaboration with professors from Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Civil Society Studies to introduce NPM courses in the Kyrgyz Republic’s universities, helping prepare the next generation of nonprofit leaders to collaborate with the government and the private sector in shaping public policy to the benefit of the people of the Kyrgyz Republic. To date, 11 universities in the Kyrgyz Republic make 4 NPM courses available for over 1,500 students in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of study.

Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) promotes effective collaboration among civil society, the private sector, and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), and is implemented by East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
