Bishkek – On June 5, 2017, 11 a.m., Anti-Corruption Business Council of the Kyrgyz Republic will hold a press conference to present the results of the May 30th voting in the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) Committee on Economic and Fiscal Policy on amendments to the Law “On Pledge” and the Civil Code aimed to protect the property rights of citizens and businesses. The press conference will take place at Kabar Information Agency at 175, Abdrakhmanov Street.
The proposed amendments to the Law “On Pledge” and the Civil Code will enable the citizens and businesses to protect their property rights and, in case of a violation, block any unlawful seizure of citizens’ property. The intention of this series of amendments is to aid in the avoidance of corruption and to reduce “gaps” within the current legislation that provides opportunities for corrupt practices. The initiators of the draft laws, members of the four factions of the Jogorku Kenesh, decided to provide more specific and stringent grounds for foreclosure on the subject of collateral in extrajudicial procedures.
The initiative to develop and promote amendments to the Civil Code, and the Law “On Pledge” is an example of the successful cooperation between the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) and the Anti-Corruption Business Council of the Kyrgyz Republic as part of the project supported by the Collaborative Governance Program (CGP).
The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) works to strengthen the partnership between the Kyrgyz Republic Government, civil society and private sector. The program is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and implemented by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
