Kyrgyzstan requests 3 mln USD from the Green Climate Fund to develop National Policy for the Adaptation to Climate Change

Kyrgyzstan, under UNDP support, requests three mln USD from the Green Climate Fund to develop National Policy for the Adaptation to Climate Change.

On July 13, a round table conference on agreement on the project document on shaping of the National Policy for the Adaptation to Climate Change (NAP) under support of the Green Climate Fund was held. The project document was developed by UNDP and the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (SAEPF).

1.jpgRepresentatives of state and non-government agencies involved in developing policies on adaptation to climate change attended the event. They are SAEPF, the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Agriculture and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic.

2.jpgSAEPF and UNDP presented the participants road map on NAP implementation and the project document on developing national and sectoral strategic documents on adaptation to climate change that were designed by SAEFP in cooperation with UNDP.

NAP aims to support the processes of shaping a future vision for climate-sustainable development with due regard to lessons learned, best practices that will be reflected in the relevant strategic documents and processes of the country.

The head of the Department of Environmental Strategy and Policy under SAEPF, Bekkulova Dzh.E., says NAP will allow Kyrgyzstan to implement measures for reducing effects of climate change.

This project document comprises steps on designing and approval of the national mandate, strategies and mechanisms on adaptation to climate change and implementation of appropriate measures. The Director of SAEFP, Rustamov A.A., expressed confidence that this project would produce positive results for the country.

3.jpgAfter discussions, the implementing partners agreed on the project document on the National Policy for the Adaptation to Climate Change. The future project will be implemented by UNDP as an international agency accredited by the Green Climate Fund with a total budget of US $ 3 million and a duration of 4 years.
