Osh. On December 8, 2017, the Public Foundation DIA (Demilgeluu, Ishker, Ayaldar), in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, will hold a nationwide conference on the theme: “Domestic Violence as a Social Issue”.
The main goal is to create an interactive platform for strengthening the interaction of responsible state structures, local authorities and public organizations to consolidate efforts in implementing legislation in the field of safeguarding and protection against domestic violence. The nationwide conference will be held with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) as a part of the 16-day campaign against gender violence. The conference will start at 10 a.m. at the grand conference hall, Osh Nuru Hotel located at: 1 Bayalinov Street.
The conference participants will discuss the existing practices of struggling against domestic violence both at national and local levels, and share their experience and information on preventing domestic violence. As a result of the conference, a set of recommendations on implementing the Law “On Safeguarding and Protection from Domestic Violence” will be prepared and key mechanisms identified to respond to domestic violence.
The conference participants include members of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic (Parliament), representatives of local self-governments, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, Osh Mayor’s Office, and Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Kyrgyz Republic Government in Osh, Batken and Jalal-Abad Oblasts, as well as representatives of civil society organizations from all regions of the country engaged in protection against domestic violence, Ombudsman’s Office, UN Women in Kyrgyzstan, UNDP, and media.
The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) works to strengthen the partnership between the Kyrgyz Republic Government, civil society and private sector. The program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and implemented by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
