Bishkek - On December 15, 2017, the Center for Public Policy (CPP), with support from the USAID Collaborative Governance Program, completed a series of training sessions within the project “Increasing the Role of Public Councils in Preventing Conflicts of Interest in Government Bodies”.
As a part of the project, CPP conducted 11 training sessions for more than 200 participants including members of public councils of state bodies (PCs), representatives of government and municipal structures, and non-government organizations. The trainers explained the concept of conflict of interest and the existing legal framework while using real cases to train attendees. At the end of the training, each participant received a collection of case studies developed within the project to use as a reference to help identify potential conflicts of interest in their daily work.
The Chair of the Public Council of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Culture and Sports under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Anara Kasmalieva noted: “We are grateful to the organizers for the high-level training workshop on conflict of interest. I was able to obtain the necessary information on the relevant legal framework, as well as to participate in the discussion of the proposed cases. As a member of the Public Council for the Agency, I have benefited much by learning the experience of other organizations in identifying and preventing conflicts of interest. I am particularly thankful to our trainers. Thank you once again for the invitation, and I look forward for further cooperation”.
The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) works to strengthen the partnership between the Kyrgyz Republic Government, civil society and private sector. The program is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and implemented by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
