Bishkek – On May 17, 2018 the Public Association "Kyrgyz Association of Women Judges", in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic, launched a series of guest lectures for students of universities and colleges (vocational institutions) in all regions of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The guest lectures are aimed at increasing students' awareness of Free Legal Aid Centers established countrywide, improving their knowledge about the judicial system, and providing details about the new Law on Safeguarding and Protection against Domestic Violence. The series of guest lectures are being held as part of the project "Increasing knowledge of citizens about obtaining legal information", with the support of the Collaborative Governance Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the East-West Management Institute.
During the guest lectures, the judges will inform over 1,200 students from over 40 universities and colleges about Free Legal Aid Centers (FLACs) and the interactive map of legal service providers www.legalmap.gov.kg of the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic. The students will also learn about the role and structure of the judicial system and about the online resource of judicial acts www.sot.kg of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic, where judicial decisions and other information on the work of courts are published. In addition, the students will receive booklets, brochures and video PSA demonstrations aimed at improving access to justice for the most vulnerable groups of the population in Kyrgyzstan.
The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) promotes effective collaboration between civil society, the private sector, and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
