On February 15, 2019, 10 a.m., a press briefing will be held for the media to inform on the results of the project “The Committee for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (CPDV) as an Effective Tool for the Prevention of Domestic Violence”.
At the press briefing, the participants will share the results of the workshops aimed to support the implementation of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on Safeguarding and Protection from Domestic Violence and to prevent domestic violence. In addition, the participants will discuss further steps for CPDVs to eliminate domestic violence in Bishkek settlements.
The project is implemented by the Public Union “Women Support Center”, with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program. The participants at the event will include representatives of relevant authorities and civil society, CPDV members, and residents of three targeted settlements of Bishkek.
As part of the project, 211 residents of three Bishkek settlements (Kalys Ordo, Kolmo and Ak Bosogo), including both men and women, attended 12 workshops and learned about existing domestic violence legislation and how to respond to cases of domestic violence and improve relationships between family members.
The project provided support to the CPDVs of the three settlements to strengthen their capacity and implement initiatives for the elimination of domestic violence in their communities.
The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) promotes effective collaboration between civil society, the private sector, and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
