Within three days, April 11, 18 and 19 2014, Kyrgyz National Philharmonic named after Toktogul Satylganov will host the 9th Bishkek International Jazz Festival.
The festival program will include 10 jazz bands from 7 countries: Kyrgyzstan, USA, Germany, Tajikistan, Austria, Uzbekistan and Japan.
The motto of the festival is "Music without borders". Our mission is to help build bridges of cultural cooperation in the name of friendship and understanding between nations. Jazz is an international language of music communication, was created in all corners of the globe. It is a democratic form of music, the music of free and creative people.
The Jazz festival organizer is a community foundation "Central Asia - Arts Management(PF CAAM)" with support of The Christensen Fund (USA), US Embassy, Swiss Embassy, Goethe Institute, Austrian Embassy and German Embassy.
The culmination of the festival is a long awaited event, the arrival of our compatriot, virtuoso pianist, nominated for the prestigious Grammy award – Eldar Dzhangirov. Eldar was born in Kyrgyzstan and moved to the USA when he was 10 year old, where he got a worldwide fame as a jazz pianist. Thanks to the support of the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, the talented pianist will perform a solo at the festival on April 18 and with his band " Eldar Trio" and will also participate in a jam session on April 17.
Public Fund "Central Asia - Arts Management" with the support of Christensen Fund is continuing to develop the ethno jazz Central Asia. This year, a group of Central Asian ethnic jazz copyrights present compositions based on national musical heritage of the people of Central Asia. Moreover, for the first time, the festival will conduct an experimental performance of the Central Asian jazz ensemble, which will perform on April 19 under the control of
American conductor Vimbai Kaziboni .
The festival also includes master classes with foreign jazz masters for young musicians of Kyrgyzstan , as well as jam sessions. Renowned jazz critic, editor in chief of Jazz.ru and author of books about jazz, Moshkov Cyrill (Moscow) will also hold April 17 lecture on "Improvisation and jazz - Ways to improvised music in the XXI century."
