Ministers and senior officials from 11 CAREC countries and representatives from development partners joined the 19th Ministerial Conference. The theme of this year’s ministerial conference is “People-Centered Regional Cooperation in the Post-COVID Environment.”
The conference provided an opportunity to hold high-level deliberations on the importance of regional cooperation to restore economic stability, support economic growth, and create jobs and livelihood opportunities in CAREC member countries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his keynote address, Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa cited the importance of digitalization and leveraging the private sector to nurture a people-centered economic recovery as Central Asia bounces back from the COVID-19 crisis.
CAREC ministers endorsed the CAREC Program Results Framework as well as the CAREC Tourism Strategy 2030 and the CAREC Gender Strategy 2030.
Afghanistan Acting Finance Minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal chaired the meeting and reiterated his commitment to regional cooperation. ADB Vice-President Shixin Chen co-chaired the meeting.
