Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) project “Support to Criminal Justice Reform in the Kyrgyz Republic”.
The aim of this project is to strengthen cooperation between police and local communities on crime prevention and public safety based on social partnership principles.

The training course “Enhanced interaction between police and the local community to prevent crime and ensure public safety”, developed by a national trainers’ team in the Kyrgyz language, is intended for mid-rank police officers to train them in effective communication skills. Twenty three mid-rank police officers – juveniles inspectors and community police officers – from Jalal-Abad Department of Interior Affairs took part in the training.

The national experts will introduce the following topics to training course participants: management conflict issues, psychological attention and perception characteristics. An emphasis on these topics will enhance the participants’ ability to plan and conduct negotiations. On the whole, the training course programme will be based on a combination of interactive training forms and practical tasks to increase the learning process efficiency. A similar training course for police officers of Batken province was organized in June 2014 in the town of Batken.

The training activity, implemented by UNODC with generous support from the U.S. Embassy International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Office in the Kyrgyz Republic, is an example of cooperation between UNODC, the US Government and the KR Ministry of Internal Affaires in support of the implementation of the National Strategy on Sustainable Development of the Kyrgyz Republic and Police Reform Measures, adopted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2013.
