August 21, 2014, Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. The one-day "Accreditation of forensic organizations on the international standard ISO 17025: purpose, meaning and characteristics" seminar for specialists of the State Forensic Centre within the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic (SFC KR) and representatives of other expert organizations is held today in Bishkek. The seminar has been arranged within the framework of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Program on Criminal Justice in the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the seminar peculiarities of accrediting forensic organizations on the international standard ISO 17025, problems of methodological support validation, as well as creation of a national accreditation system for forensic laboratories in the Kyrgyz Republic will be discussed. The speakers at the seminar are the leading experts in the field of forensic activities.
In general, the seminar has been designed to improve knowledge of the national experts in the field of international standards for the accreditation of forensic organizations, and to assist in developing the roadmap aimed at establishing the national accreditation system for forensic laboratories in the Kyrgyz Republic.
SFC KR is an independent specialized agency of the country, which provides practical research and studies in the field of criminology and forensics. To the moment the SFC KR has been holding 48 types of forensic, engineering, technical, economic, handwriting and other examinations for forensic and investigative agencies in the process of investigating and considering criminal and civil cases.
UNODC provides assistance in enhancing SFC KR capacity within the Integrated Country Assistance Program for the Kyrgyz Republic for 2014-2016 years. The main objective of the UNODC support is improving the country legislation in the field of forensic expertise, enhancing the forensic experts’ skills and knowledge, strengthening cooperation between this expertise institution and the law enforcement agencies of the country, as well as improving its material and technical basis, including construction of a new building for SFC KR. This work is implemented under support of the Government of the United States of America, the Office for combating international drug trafficking and law enforcement (INL)
