SMM intern

Mercy Corps Kyrgyzstan is pleased to announce internship opportunities in its Bishkek office for 5 months, from August 2024 to December 2024. Two interns will support a PR of Mercy Corps in Kyrgyzstan program activities. One intern, with SMM skills, will assist with SNS through participation in Mercy Corps events, while the other will assist with video production. 

General Service Summary

Mercy Corps is an international non-profit organization that has been operating in Kyrgyzstan since 1994 and promotes the development of local communities. For 30 years, Mercy Corps in Kyrgyzstan has been working in the field of improving literacy and nutrition for children, creating access to clean drinking water, organizing school orchards, providing assistance in emergency situations, and strengthening peace. Mercy Corps Strategy for 2024-27 in Kyrgyzstan aims to increase access to food, water, and natural resources, as well as to increase the capacity to manage conflicts in vulnerable rural areas in order to create viable and inclusive communities.

Since 2012, Mercy Corps has been implementing the McGovern-Dole "Food for Education and Child Nutrition" program with the support of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Within the framework of this program, Mercy Corps' activities are aimed at improving the literacy of school-age children and the organization of hot meals in more than 900 schools, introducing best practices in the field of health and nutrition of primary school students, and their communities.

The project "Water for Peace: Climate-resilient and Peaceful Communities", funded by the PATRIP Foundation, contributes to stabilization and/or conflict prevention by improving irrigation and domestic water supply in 25 settlements of the Batken Region.

Qualification Requirements for SMM intern and intern in video production
Requirements for SMM intern:

  • Currently pursuing or recent graduate with a degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Strong passion for social media and digital marketing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic graphic design skills
  • Ability to make live streams, and attractive content for various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Understanding of algorithms, and trends in social media
  • Ability to work and think creatively
  • Interest in humanitarian work and social justice issues, aligned with Mercy Corps’s mission and values.
  • Respect for diverse cultures and communities, particularly in the context of international development.
  • Fluency in Kyrgyz, Russian and English languages (preferable)

Requirements for an intern in video production:

  • Enrolled in or recent graduate of a program in Film Production, Digital Media, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in video shooting
  • Experience with video editing software
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in video production.
  • Ability to work and think creatively
  • Interest in humanitarian work and social justice issues, aligned with Mercy Corps’ mission and values.
  • Respect for diverse cultures and communities, particularly in the context of international development.
  • Fluency in Kyrgyz, Russian and English languages (preferable)

Intern Responsibilities:

SMM intern is required to cover the basic events organized or participated by Mercy Corps staff. It is expected that he or she will enhance Mercy Corps' online visibility (on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube)

  • Support in information coverage of events and content creation
  • Participation in events where Mercy Corps is involved
  • Creating and engaging social media content, including posts, videos, and live streams about these events
  • PR Campaigns Support
  • Support the execution of social media campaigns and initiatives
  • Other duties related to SMM as per request

Intern for video production will assist in the creation of documentary and promotional videos highlighting human stories and impactful projects of Mercy Corps in Kyrgyzstan.

  • Video Planning and Scriptwriting
  • Assist in writing scripts and scenarios for documentary and promotional videos.
  • Video Shooting and Production
  • Conduct video shoots, including interviews, b-roll footage, and scenes at Mercy Corps project sites.
  • Assist with creative inputs for enhancing video content and storytelling.
  • Other duties related to video production as per request
