Driver to Osh office

Mercy Corps in the Kyrgyz Republic is pleased to announce the vacant Driver position in its Osh office.

McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program financed by USDA aims to improve the literacy of primary school-age children and increase the use of best health, nutrition, and dietary practices among primary school students and their communities. Program teams will carry out activities related to providing a combination of USDA-provided and locally purchased commodities to participating in primary schools, infrastructure rehabilitation and provision of grants for kitchen equipment purchase, engaging local authorities and complementary activities that will address WASH infrastructure needs, training for school cooks and officials, and a social behavior change campaign with local health care workers and parents. The combination of policy advocacy, institutional capacity building, and infrastructure support to enable school feeding ensures the sustainability of literacy and nutritional gains for primary school-age children and primary schools. The project directly supports the Government of Kyrgyzstan’s new education strategy and the 2019 School Feeding Law and its corollaries.

General Position Summary

Under the direction of the Program team, the Driver provides professional driving maximally ensuring passengers’ safety and security and technically sound condition of the vehicle, and provides support and logistical service in support of the Program operations.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Safe driving of Mercy Corps vehicles in compliance with all Mercy Corps policies and procedures and the traffic regulations of the Kyrgyz Republic.
  • Ensure excellent working condition of vehicles through daily inspection and maintenance, including keeping fuel tanks at least half full, checking oil, water, fluid, and tire pressure, traveling, steering and brake gear, etc.
  • Clean the exterior and interior of vehicles; ensure a complete set of small tools, a spare tire, a first medical aid set, necessary documents, and others in compliance with standard rules of Mercy Corps.
  • Adhere to the driver’s duty list and obtain appropriate signatures after every job.
  • Fill out the Timesheet in Databases regularly/daily
  • Prepare monthly travel reports, maintain and keep vehicle mileage reports, fuel consumption, and spare parts for vehicles.
  • Availability for fieldwork.
  • No driving outside of town more than one hour after dark without prior permission (verbal or written) of the Country Director.
  • Strictly observe traffic regulations, and demand fastening seat belts from passengers.
  • Be courteous with field staff of Mercy Corps as well as with the representatives of communities. Support field staff in work with the communities, direct participation in preparation and organization of work of Mercy Corps team in communities.
  • Do not take any alcoholic drinks during the working week.
  • Act strictly in line with the available instructions in case of traffic accidents and loss occurrence.

Other responsibilities:

  • Promote the GESI efforts of Mercy Corps, and ensure that MC GESI standards are incorporated into all activities.
  • Actively learn about safeguarding and integrate it into the work, including safeguarding risks and mitigations.
  • Practice the values of Mercy Corps including respecting the dignity and well-being of participants and fellow team members.
  • Encourage openness and communication in the team; encourage team members to submit reports if they have any concerns using reporting mechanisms e.g., Integrity Hotline and other options.
  • Other functions as needed, including providing administrative support.

Security

  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
  • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Driving license of “B” and “C” categories.
  • At least five years of driving experience.
  • Good knowledge of areas, routes to projects
  • Minimum five years of professional driving experience.
  • Ability to read maps.
  • Working technical knowledge of vehicles and maintenance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team
  • PC skills (Word, Excel).

DESIRED:

  • Knowledge of verbal English language.
  • Experience in working with international organizations.

Success Factors: Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen, and respect for colleagues.

Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team.
