Women and Youth Program Assistant

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) representative office in Kyrgyzstan seeks a Women and Youth Program Assistant. NDI Kyrgyzstan’s women and youth programs include diverse projects with multiple donors implemented in Bishkek and major regions and cities in Kyrgyzstan. Current programs focus on youth civic engagement, women’s political participation, and the provision of technical assistance to the Forum of Women MPs. 

Background:

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness, and accountability in government. NDI has supported democratic institutions and practices in every region of the world for four decades. Since its founding in 1983, NDI and its local partners have worked to establish and strengthen political and civic organizations, safeguard elections, and promote citizen participation, openness, and accountability in government. NDI works in Kyrgyzstan to support democratic institutions, including political parties, better able to engage with stakeholders and citizens on national policy, legislation development, and citizen concerns and priorities. 

Under the direct supervision of the Women and Youth Program Manager, the Program Assistant will perform the following tasks:

 Program Tasks

  • Assist in monitoring program activities implemented by sub-grantees.
  • Provide assistance to sub-grantees to ensure that all reporting is submitted in a timely manner and meets the reporting requirements.
  • Provide logistical assistance in the organization of program activities.
  • Contribute to program planning, budget development, tracking, implementation, and reporting.
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of program activities.
  • Provide written translations and interpretation support between the English, Kyrgyz, and Russian
  • Provide inputs to program reports, meeting minutes, correspondence, and other documents as required.
  • Schedule meetings and update Gmail calendar on a regular basis.
  • Provide interpretation (English-Russian-Kyrgyz) during meetings.
  • File and maintain correspondence (letters, fax, e-mail, reports and all documents) related to program implementation.
  • Maintain the existing filing system, ensuring that all documents are easily retrievable.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned.

Experience/skills required

  • An undergraduate graduate degree in political or social sciences. Postgraduate degree preferred.
  • Two years of work professional experience with international organizations or a domestic civic organization, gender policy mainstreaming, and civic engagement promotion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to interact effectively and diplomatically. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.
  • Ability to travel across the country and within the Central Asia region.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office programs and Google Applications.
  • Professional level fluency in English, Kyrgyz, and Russian languages. 

This is a full-time position.  Mandatory working hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday.
