The Twinning Project “Promotion of Inclusive Education and STEAM in urban and rural schools” is a joint project between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Lithuania, represented by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania.

The overall objective of the project, which is implemented by the state institutions from Lithuania, is capacity building of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic enabling to put in place an effective mechanism to promote inclusive and equitable quality education targeting: (i) More inclusive and equitable education for all; (ii) Better education quality for all; (iii)  Improved education finance.  

The project is seeking a Translation Assistant to the Resident Twinning Adviser (RTA Translation Assistant), whose activities include assisting the RTA and all the project team with oral and written translations as well as editing, co-ordination and management of the Twinning project. The project will start on the 20th of December 2024 with the duration of 24 months.

The RTA Translation assistant will be hired full-time on a service contract and stationed in Bishkek. The RTA Translation Assistant shall not have been in any contractual relation with the public sector in the Beneficiary Country, Kyrgyz Republic, during at least the 6 months preceding their hiring. 

The tasks of the RTA Language Assistant include:

  • Translation and interpretation on a daily basis.
  • To support the RTA, Project Leader (PL), and short-term experts (STE) with language-related tasks in the execution of their responsibilities and tasks to deliver the project objectives, including the preparation of the documents needed in support of their missions;
  • Translation of all documents related to the project activities (legislation, mission reports, correspondence, Short-Term Experts’ presentations, training materials, promotional materials, etc.);
  • Interpretation for the RTA and STEs in all meetings, workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.;
  • Providing assistance in the preparation of project-related documents;
  • Taking part in the Study visits interpreting for Beneficiary institution’s participants and for the RTA;
  • Assisting the RTA in drafting the minutes in Kyrgyz and English of the Steering Committee Meetings  (other meetings /events) related to the project;
  • Providing assistance with all the office work, organising meetings, help the RTA and the RTA Assistant in everything which is necessary for the smooth operation of the project.

Requirements for the candidates:

The RTA Translation Assistant will be recruited in accordance with the following selection criteria: 

Required skills and experience: 

  • Preferably, a University Degree in English Philology and/or experience with translation and interpretation of not less than 1 year;
  • Fluent in Kyrgyz both spoken and written with an excellent command of written and spoken English and Russian;
  • Practical experience in the day-to-day provision of translation and interpretation support to international advisors/experts, as well as experience in teaching English;
  • Experience in international donor projects is an advantage (e.g. EU projects);
  • Excellent Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Internet, etc.);
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A high degree of independence, strong initiative, flexibility, discretion, and professionalism;
  • Strong intercultural and social competencies;
  • Very good communication skills, enabling to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of employees and external contacts;
