Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, 30 June 2016 – The University of Central Asia’s Mountain Societies Research Institute (UCA MSRI) convened the final Central Asia and Afghanistan Research Fellowship (CAARF) workshop for ten Central Asian and Afghan scholars to document their diverse research into policy recommendations.

Karakol – On June 23 public union Harmony Plus will train 10 people living with HIV (PLHIV) to be peer-to-peer consultants to other PLHIV. Peer-to-peer consultants will strengthen the PLHIV community by using their personal experience and training to support PLHIV in similar situations. The training is supported by USAID and DFID.

Financial institutions team up to co-finance road in Tajikistan. A delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is heading to China to participate in the first Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and to sign a joint project, a reconstruction of a road in Tajikistan, one of the first ever AIIB projects.

Batken – On June 21, 2016, Cholpon Sultanbekova, the deputy of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Jokorku Kenesh (parliament), joined Batken Oblast government officials, representatives from CSOs, students, including Madrasah girls, and local community members for a meeting on “Strengthening Justice and Benevolence in the Society.” The meeting started at 11 a.m. in the conference hall in Batken State University.
