BISHKEK – The UN Human Rights Office in Central Asia is calling on Kyrgyzstan’s parliamentary fractions to ensure that the process to choose the next Ombudsperson fully takes into account the candidates’ qualifications and experience in the field of human rights.
GENEVA (5 September 2018) — The United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) will make its second visit to Kyrgyzstan from 11 to 22 September. The Subcommittee will assess measures taken to protect persons deprived of their liberty against torture and ill-treatment, and look into progress made in implementing the recommendations made following its first visit in 2012.

On August 9, 2018, an official launch of improved drinking water supply service took place in Bagysh municipality of Jalal-Abad province of Kyrgyzstan.
On July 27, 2018, the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic will inaugurate two new Free Legal Aid Centers in Kerben and Karakul of Jalal-Abad oblast. Visitors of the centers will be able to get free consultation of a lawyer, public notary officer, or defense attorney. The opening ceremonies in Kerben will take place at 10 a.m. at Kerben Mayor’s Office (7 Niyazaly st.) and at 14.00 in Karakul at Karakul Mayor’s Office (1 Lenin st).
The 30-strong Swiss delegation including representatives from parliament, cantonal governments and the private sector was headed by the Swiss Minister of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, Mr. Johann N. Schneider-Ammann. The delegation visited Kyrgyzstan on July 13-15, 2018.

Naryn, 28 June 2018 – In support of the objectives outlined by President Sooronbai Jeenbekov in the Declaration of 2018 as the Year of the Development of the Regions, the Naryn Town Municipality and Aga Khan Development Network agreed to cooperate on the master plan for the development of Naryn town. This was formally announced during the VI International Naryn Investment Forum organised earlier today by the Naryn Oblast Administration. Following the pronouncement, the Naryn Municipality and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, an AKDN agency, formally exchanged copies of a Memorandum of Cooperation.
