Kyrgyz citizens and other citizens with resident permit in the Kyrgyz Republic travelling to Slovakia can apply for Schengen visa at the Embassy of Switzerland in Bishkek starting from 1 November 2015.

Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, 21 October 2015 –The University of Central Asia’s Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (UCA CHHU) released a new short film; Kyrgyz Herders | Funeral Laments. It highlights unique aspects of Kyrgyz history and culture and tells the story of two custodians of Kyrgyz nomadic traditions – herders and funeral lamenters (koshokchus).

Today, on the 20^th of October, the official handover ceremony of emergency equipment for the management of natural disasters in Kyrgyzstan has taken place in the city of Osh.

On 22 October 2015 in Bishkek, the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic will award best Village and District Health Committees of the country for the commitment and voluntary work in health promotion for their communities.

The Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic has provided modern laundry equipment in the amount of more than CHF 780’000 (more than 55 million soms) to 30 regional and district hospitals in Kyrgyzstan.

On 14 October the Organic Agriculture Forum “Production and marketing of organic products” took place in Jalalabad city to promote organic agriculture in Kyrgyzstan.

On 9 October 2015, the University of Central Asia hosted a public lecture on Higher Education and Science Reform in Republic of Kazakhstan: Diverse Trajectories of Developing Partnerships by Dr Aida Sagintayeva, Chief Executive Director, and Dr Murat Orunkhanov, Senior Research Fellow from Nazarbayev University’s Graduate School of Education (NUGSE). The lecture resulted in an animated discussion on higher education, with former President of the Kyrgyz Republic Mrs Roza Otunbayeva playing an active role.

The inauguration event marking the completion of the renovation work at the dormitory for young doctors and medical residents has taken place on 8 October in At-Bashy district of the Naryn province of Kyrgyzstan.

A team of Japanese archaeologists from the National Research Institute for Cultural Properties and Waseda University, Tokyo joined efforts by regional scholars to excavate and preserve archaeological sites and artefacts at the University of Central Asia’s (UCA) Naryn campus site from 30 July to 9 August 2015.
